This pact is expected to increase the exports of traditional British products such as scotch whiskey, while increasing import sheep and wine from Australia. U.K. Also hoping that the agreement will help him join the Trans-Pacific Trade Partnership, which will open the door to increase trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
This is the first British trade agreement that negotiated from the start because it left the EU. Previous offers with countries including Japan and Canada were built on an existing agreement by the EU.
“This is a global English in an extraordinary and striking offer that deepens our alliances and helps ensure that every part of the country rebuilds better than Pandemi,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement.
Johnson and his Australian partnership, Scott Morrison, discussed the outline of the agreement they achieved during the Monday night talks in London.
England is the fifth largest trading partner in Australia with two-way goods and services worth 36.6 billion Australian dollars ($ 28.2 billion) per year.
Australian Minister of Trade and Tehan said the agreement would create jobs and help businesses.
“British consumers are missing by choosing high-quality Australian products,” Tehan told the Australian parliament before Tuesday. “What’s more, they lose the best lamb meat, the best steak in the world and wash it with the best glass of Australian wine you can imagine.”
U.K. The agricultural group reacts carefully, say they are waiting to see the details of the agreement. British meat producers have expressed concern that they will not be able to compete with cheap import from Australia.
Johnson’s office defended the agreement, told UK. Farmers will be protected by hats on import free fare for 15 years. The government also said it would try to increase agricultural exports to Asia and the Pacific.
U.K. Cabinet Minister Michael Gove said Australian beef imports would be a “quite small” portion of consumption of U.K.
“It is important for us to maintain protection and support for farmers, but also happens that opening trade barriers, bring it down and open opportunities, give our farmers the opportunity to show the world stage produces amazing British products,” Gove told Sky News.
