The Egyptian court has called for broadcasting the execution of a murderer, who stabbed his classmate to death after he refused his marriage proposal.
According to The Independent, Mohamed Adel, who is 21 years old, was found guilty for killing fellow Nayera Ashraf students outside of Mansoura University in North Egypt last month. He was sentenced to death on June 28, and now the Mansoura Court Building has written to parliament to ask for execution to be broadcast live on television to prevent similar crimes from occurring in the future.

Quoting local media, the outlet reports that the court writes in a statement: “Broadcast, even if only in the beginning of the process, which can achieve prevention goals, which are not achieved by broadcasting the sentence itself.

The court heard that Adel stabbed Ashraf to death outside the university after he refused his marriage proposal. He pleaded guilty to the murder and was sentenced to death, a decision that had to go to Egyptian large mufti Dr. Shawki Allam for approved. The verdict was published on July 24.

However, Mr. Adel’s legal team is still struggling for him. Defendant’s lawyer Farid El-Deeb said that his client would appeal the sentence. Mr. El-Deeb was quoted by saying, “We still have 60 days to challenge the death sentence against Adel.”

According to The National, millions of Egyptians have followed a terrible case since the graphics video of MS Ashraf’s murder on a busy road is widely distributed on social media. The murder of Nayera Ashraf has highlighted the problem of gender -based violence in Egypt as well. Last year, Amnesty International also stated that the police were not enough to investigate sexual and gender -based violence, as well as the court adequately punished him.

Meanwhile, according to independent, Egypt has distributed more and more death sentences in recent years. The last time the country had a public execution back in 1998 when government television broadcasting three men who killed a woman and her two children in their home in Cairo.
