The Watcher is a new Netflix original series from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, and we’ve got all the facts so you can stay on top of it. The horror intrigue series is based on a true tale and is a limited series. It’s based on Reeves Wideman’s tale of the same name from the magazine The Cut, which was published in 2018. Netflix purchased cinematic rights to the tale a month after it was published. Six studios competed in a fierce bidding war, but Netflix emerged victorious after paying $7 million for a rights package.
Release date
Netflix has not yet set an official release date. We don’t anticipate a release date announcement any time soon because the program is presently in development. However, we anticipate a release in 2022. After filming is over, the program will most likely spend six to eight months in post-production. As a result, we may expect the show to premiere on Netflix somewhere between August and October 2022.
Cast members
The top three actors attached to The Watcher between June and November 2021 have been reported by Deadline. Nora renamed Maria in the source narrative, will be played by Naomi Watts (King Kong and Netflix’s Gypsy). Dean, renamed Derek, will be played by Bobby Cannavale (known for The Station Agent and lending his voice to Netflix’s Big Mouth). Jennifer Coolidge (who previously appeared in HBO’s The White Lotus) will portray Karen in the series, who is a gorgeous and humorous real estate agent who shows the family around the property. Noma Dumezweni (Mary Poppins Returns) completes the major cast as Theodora, a private investigator (renamed from Reggie). Finally, Margo Martindale has signed on to portray Maureen, a neighbor. She and her husband reside behind the house in question.
Persons behind Netflix’s The Watcher
Ian Brennan, the project’s driving force, will also executive producing with Ryan Murphy, a long-time partner. Eric Newman is also an executive producer on the film. All three of the aforementioned companies have long-term agreements with Netflix. Executive producers include Henry Joost and Bryan Unkeless. Paris Barclay, Henry Joost, and Ariel Schulman are among the project’s directors who have been revealed thus far.
Synopsis
Although no official synopsis has been given by Netflix, we have a good notion of what the limited series will be about. The Watcher follows a married couple whose plans to move into their ideal house are thwarted when they receive ominous letters and threats from The Watcher, a mystery stalker.
The number of episodes in The Watcher
Seven episodes will make up the limited series. Because the horror-mystery is described as a limited series, only one season is expected. However, if enough people see the show, there’s a chance it’ll be renewed for a second season.
