US President Joe Biden supports Germany, Japan and India as a permanent member of the UN Security Council reformed, a senior government official said. At the same time, a lot of work must be done in this case, the official told the report on Wednesday on the condition of anonymity.
“We have historically and continue to stand behind the idea that Germany, Japan and India must be a permanent member of the Security Council,” said the official in response to a question.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Biden in his speech at the UN General Assembly reiterated his commitment to reform the UN Security Council.

Biden said he was sure the time had arrived for the institution to become more inclusive so that he could respond to the needs of the world today better.

Members of the UN Security Council, including the United States, must consistently uphold and defend the UN Charter and refrain from the use of Veto, except in rare and extraordinary situations, to ensure that the council remains credible and effective, he said.

“That is why the United States supports increasing the number of permanent and non-permanent council representatives. This is a permanent seat for the countries that we have long supported,” Biden said.
