Massive protests have occurred in Iran for the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by moral police for not wearing a hijab (hijab) in the right way. On the streets, the demonstrators have burned the photos of Iran’s highest leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the midst of a “death scream for the dictator”. In the symbolic action of opposition to the hijab government, female protesters also cut their hair and burned their hijab in public.
Now, in the midst of demonstrations, an old video from former Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser mocking the need to make a mandatory hijab for women in Egypt has appeared on social media.
“This is what Gamal Abdel Nasser responded to, the second president (1954-70) from Egypt, to the Head of the Muslim Brotherhood who insisted on the hijab mandatory in Egypt,” the title of the post was read. “This is 1958. What revealed the era of liberalism & empowerment in the last few decades?” it was added.
In the clip, Mr. Nasser told his exchange with Hassan Al-Hudaybi, Head of the Muslim Brotherhood, in 1953. “We really want to compromise with the Muslim Brotherhood. If they are willing to do it in the right and right way,” Mr. Nasser was heard said in Video.
“I met with the Head of the Muslim Brotherhood and he sat with me and submitted his request. What he asked? The first thing he said to me was to make a mandatory hijab in Egypt and make every woman walk on the road wearing a tarha (scarf). Women walk! “Mr Nasser added.
For this, the crowd quickly expressed their disappointment, with one even shouting, “Let him wear it”. Former President Egypt chuckled and then continued to tell the crowd he said to Al-Hudaybi. “My opinion is that everyone in his own house decides for himself the rules,” he said.
“And he answered: ‘No, as the leader you are responsible’ I say to him ‘your master has a princess in a medical school … he doesn’t wear tarha. Why don’t you make him wearing tarha? If you can’t make a girl – Who is your daughter! – Wear Tarha, you want me to place Tarha on 10 million women? Own, “Mr. Nasser asked when the audience applauded.
Since sharing, the video has surprised internet users. “Do not believe this is Islam in the 1950s. Damn, what happened !!!!” write one user. “It seems like an era where common sense is still abundant,” added another.
