A petition engaged before the Delhi High Court on Thursday looking for directions to the center to change the sign of ‘VT’ written on Indian aircraft which stands for ‘Victoria’ or ‘Youth Raja Region’, a British Raj heritage.

Advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhya, in his request, said the prefix ‘VT’ is a citizenship code that must be registered by every aircraft in India. The code is generally seen right before the exit back and above the window.Mr. Upadhyay said all domestic airlines have the ‘VT’ prefix, which is followed by unique letters that determine the aircraft and who comes. The British said to set the ‘VT’ prefix for all colonies in 1929. While countries such as China, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka changed their summons after independence, the prefix remained on Indian aircraft even after 93 years.

“VT is not a symbol of pride but a problem of shame, if we still use it when our nation is free,” said Mr. Upadhyay.”Even our prime minister traveled to meet with world leaders in Air India One B747-437, with a VT-EVB call. Is the prime minister the leader of the free democratic state or the territory of the youth? Pakistan has a sign of his call changed to AP after bifurkasi. Likewise, Bahamas changed the sign from ‘VP-B’ to ‘C6’, Nepal changed to ‘9N’, Sri Lanka from ‘VP-C’ to ‘4R’ and Zimbabwe from ‘VP-W’ to ‘Z’, ” The request was debated.

According to the International Law regulated by the United Nations, aircraft from each country must determine the name of the country where it is, using a unique alpha-numeric code. The code containing five characters must have two letters, namely the state code (‘VT’ in the Indian case) and the rest shows which company has an aircraft.

Mr. Sapurdhyay said there had been a demand for a very long time to change the code because it was the remnant of the colonial regime, but the government respectively did nothing.
